At least on the technological front, good news: NTFS-3G RC1 on Ubuntu Feisty

Author: ildella on Friday, 16 of February, 2007 at 9:19 am

From this autumn the evolution of third-generation driver to support the partition formatted with NTFS be dispatched. We Ubuntu users, as well as Debian, were waiting to be able to update with the latest versions: it was precisely in this early February to the first Release Candidate el'update today Ubuntu Feisty being matched.

NTFS-3G (3rd Generation) is a driver for Linux operating systems can read and write to ntfs partitions (those from Windows NT to XP and even Vista) and is stable from November (stable means no loss of data reported) . Very probably the next Ubuntu Feisty will not use these drivers as default (but hope is still lawful), but they are "ready to use" is another kettle of fish compared to doverseli install by hand.

In all likelihood, this driver also uses the NTFS partitions better than Vista itself. You should feel the difference in the disc: a whip makes any Windows disks even more new and quality, mounted any Linux and feel almost no noise.

Via all'update!

Daily Task # 1 - Linux on iPod

Author: ildella on Sunday, 11 of February, 2007 at 11:31 AM

I have some "small" task to be performed with a larger goal that I am not explain now. One is to write to the iPod, and it's easy but Java libraries were adapted somewhat 'old and not working with the Nano and then I have two alternatives: to improve the library in person or write an API for some java library Open Source non-Java esistente.Un 'goal else, the simplest of the three, you write a sample-cenverter that translates on the fly a song by any compression format to another, achieved with a modular architecture for granted so that we can attacking several plug input and output over time. There are already good java libraries for most standard formats so it's a simple job.

Finally, the non-development task: to mount a Linux on an iPod. Follow the signs, I think reliable, found on the O'Reilly site. The idea is to use iPod as a platform on which to install "any" type of application that runs on that particular linux. Regardless of how you can then schedule (which language and with that freedom) have the idea to be able to do virtually anything is enough to make me use this beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon to install a Linux.

At work.
